Preventing Acne Breakouts
By Thomas Middleton
Millions of people around the world suffer from acne. They want to know both how to treat it and how to prevent it. Those who haven't had problems with acne before aren't necessarily exempt from its oily wrath. Anyone and everyone is vulnerable to acne and they should take steps to take care of their skin and prevent break outs and skin infections that can lead to more serious conditions.
First we'll discuss the causes of acne, because once you know the cause of something you also know how to treat it. The tiny invisible pores in your skin get clogged, whether it is my dirt or pollution you encounter on a daily basis, it doesn't have to be direct hand-to-hand contact with dirty, it's also an environmental factor as well. Stress and anxiety can also play into acne break outs. The mental and emotional aspects of our physiology can have a profound effect on our body, manifesting itself sometimes in the form of acne. Hormones also play into why some people develop acne, most notably women during menstruation. Depending on whether or not your parents or even grandparents had issues with acne, it could be a genetic factor. Also, nutrition is huge as well. If you consume a vast amount of fast food or greasy foods including soda or chocolate, you could be at risk for a break out.
Many pregnant women get acne when they are pregnant as a result of the hormone levels in their bodies being unbalanced. Usually after pregnancy these hormone levels balance right out and the acne goes away. To start off with, no matter who you are, pregnant or not pregnant, man or women, you will probably want to try using creams or lotions or facial scrubs to treat or prevent acne break outs. When searching for these products, make sure you not whether or not they contain benzoyl peroxide, which is an ingredient in many acne-prevention treatments that works quickly and effectively.
Antibiotics are another option. There are anti-biotic pills you can take, both prescription and over the counter that you might find useful in treating/preventing acne break-outs. But beware, some of these antibiotics do come with some serious side-effects. It's important to remember that if you are carrying a child, not to take antibiotics, or at very least to be careful what kind you take.
Birth control is one option. Although it might seem a little on the odd side, since acne for women can be caused by fluctuating hormone levels, the pill can help to up your estrogen and cancel out the testosterone, balancing your levels out and helping to rid your skin of acne.
There are many different methods of getting rid of acne, but since everyone responds differently to the treatments listed, you have to make sure that you do your research and be persistent in find what is right for you.
